Torva

Welcome to Torva
In the heart of the world, where no roads stretch and no mortals dare dream, there lies a land that breathes.
The rivers whisper. The trees hum in their sleep. The wind carries names long forgotten by time.
This is Torva—a place not ruled, but alive.
Witches do not walk its forests. They are its forests.
They bloom from sorrow, rise from stormlight, and vanish into mist.
You have not found Torva. It has allowed you to be found.
The Land Lives
Torva is not a place. It is a presence. A will. A breath beneath your feet. Every stone has a name. Every tree has a memory.
Witches Are Not Born
They rise from grief, stormlight, or sacred rot. No childhoods. No mothers. Only the land's choosing.
Nothing is Still
The groves shift. The lakes forget. The wind rewrites paths. Maps are lies. Stories are truer than directions.

Witches of Torva
Witches are not born.
They awaken.
The forest calls. The land remembers. Magic is not studied here—it is *inhaled.*
No two witches are alike, yet all are shaped by where they rise. By rot, flame, silence, or shadow.

Factions of Torva
Each witch aligns not just with place, but with purpose. These are the four known factions—each bound by belief, by blood, or by betrayal.
Verdant Covenant
Structure: Decentralized root-circle councils. Leadership is seasonal—whoever the forest listens to, rules.
Known Ranks: Bloom Mothers, Thornspeakers, Rot-Sworn
Laws: Never name a tree that isn’t yours. Never burn what you cannot regrow.
Ashen Circle
Structure: Fire-led warbands with branded oaths. All members must earn their name in flame.
Known Ranks: Ashbearers, Brand-Binders, Cindersworn
Laws: All power must scar. Secrets are forged in pain.
Hollow Court
Structure: Shifting illusion of monarchy. There is always a Queen—but no one knows who she is.
Known Ranks: Maskwrights, Thornjokers, False Heralds
Laws: Lie first. Laugh second. Never repeat a name.
Silent Veil
Structure: One Circle, no voices. Led by gestures, oaths, and memory.
Known Ranks: Veilbound, Shadelings, Snowseers
Laws: Nothing spoken. Everything remembered.
Magic in Torva
Magic is not learned. It is survived. Torva does not teach—it tests.
The Nature of Magic
Magic in Torva is resonance with the land’s memory. It is not drawn—it is survived. It reacts, reflects, retaliates.
It is strongest when it costs you something.
Forms of Magic
- Rotbinding: Used by the Verdant — decay as language, fungus as network.
- Flamebranding: Used by the Ashen — fire sears memory into magic.
- Reflection: Used by the Hollow — illusion, identity theft, double truths.
- Stillmagic: Used by the Silent — time slowing, memory freezing, silence rituals.
The Cost
Each spell costs. Blood. Memory. Voice. Flesh. Sometimes, just forgetting your name is enough.
History of the Witches
There is no true timeline. Only echoes.
Timeline (Fragmented)
- The First Naming: When the land named the first witch.
- The Hollowing: A war between the Ashen and Hollow over a stolen relic. No side won—only memory was lost.
- The Veilfold: When the Silent broke the timeline to save themselves. Time now fractures in Everfrost.
Whispers & Myths
The Bloom That Ate a Village: A Verdant witch planted her grief. It grew teeth.
The Mask with No Mouth: A Hollow relic that lets you speak in lies so convincing you believe them.
The Ember That Burned Backward: A spell miscast in anger that undid time—but only for one soul.

Echoes
Not everything in Torva fits into a neat scroll. These are the remnants. The scribbles. The echoes left behind.
"Witches don't die. We just change names."
– Common Saying
"Ingredients: three crow bones, one truth you've never told, and a leaf that misses its tree."
– Potion Note Found in Gloamwood
"If you feel something watching you in Moonmirror… you're late. It already knows your name."
– Field Note, Silent Veil Cartographer
"To summon a spirit of regret: speak the apology you never gave. Then wait."
– Marginalia from the Hollow Court
Speak with the Witches
Not all echoes are silent. Some speak back.
